Hi there,
And just like that, February is behind us, ending another month with its share of privacy developments.
In the legislative field, February saw the draft approval of the ePrivacy Regulation by the Council of the European Union's ambassadors. At the same time, publishers of consumer applications are under regulatory fire from European data stakeholders:
Grindr received a 9,7€ million fine from the Norwegian data authority over non-compliance of personal data sharing regulations. European consumer groups filed complaints with the EU commission over TikTok’s lack of clarity on user consent.
Many outlets reported the concerns over Clubhouse’s use of personal data, coupled with privacy breach reports and unlawful records of conversations. We can surely expect the European data authorities to soon look into the new trending app privacy practices.
In hindsight, we see the expression of the balance of power between the regulatory authorities and the Big Tech. The outcome of these showdowns will be a clear indicator for tech companies of the political line that they can expect from Europe, if this wasn't already clear.
We’ll soon be sharing some exciting developments of our own. But before that, we’re bringing you a glimpse of the technical behind-the-scenes of synthetic data generation with articles on synthetic data, a tour of the Statice software, and feedback from working with companies on their data and privacy projects.
Stay tuned and happy reading!
